Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: National/Federal Level

1. Zero to Three (http://www.zerotothree.org/)
I selected Zero to Three, because it is an organization that focuses strictly on the; development, safety, and health of children from birth until the age of three years of age. Throughout my entire educational career I have always been a fan of this website, being that my primary focus is Early Childhood Education. This program not only serves as a resource for teaching professionals, but also for parents and policymakers as well (2012).

2. National Child Care Association (http://www.nccanet.org/)
NCCA is a program that is geared towards implementing quality and developmentally appropriate practices within all childcare centers. This organization also allows parents to research information based on new regulations that are being executed on a daily basis.

3. Little Tykes ( www.littletikes.com)
This organization stuck out to me as a big interest. Little Tykes is a program that has been around for many years, and provides for children's development of all age groups. Through their toys and other items, the focus is to allow the children to explore their physical, cognitive, social, and language skills by interacting with Little Tyke materials.

  1. I also chose Zero to Three as an organization that I would like to research. I like that they provide information for the parents as well in the education system. Great organization! Weren't you supposed to state three jobs that you are interested in? I believe that anyone that is going into the education field, or that will be coming in contact with children and parents, should at least have a Bachelor's Degree.

    1. Chelsea, thanks for responding to my blog. I believe the (3) was pertaining to the COP's on a national/federal level. Because in the next bullet point, it does not specify an amount. However, Zero to Three is a website that I have used throughout my educational career, and have been extremely fond of because of the wealth of knowledge that they provide. I also agree with you, that anybody working in or with children should AT LEAST hold a Bachelor's degree in education or psychology with a minor in education. Nowadays, I see so many centers and programs only requiring a CDA as a minimum. I feel that there is so much more information to be learned beyond a CDA certificate.

  2. Sherrell,

Zero to Three is a great organization that I subscribed to for a previous course at Walden. They offer a ton of great information and have influenced my work as a teacher. I did not realize that little tykes was an organization, I thought they were simply a to manufacturer. I am curious if you found any of these organizations helpful in your challenge?

    1. Tara, thanks for responding to my blog. I have found Zero to Three and Little Tykes to be of interest that deals with my challenge; which is providing developmentally appropriate activities. I do believe that in one of my other classes, another classmate had mentioned Little Tykes and after going and actually browsing through their website did I realize that they offer so much more information than the toys that they make and manufacture.

  3. Hi Sherrell,
You have chosen three great organizations! Thank you for enlightening us on the Little Tykes website and organization. Sometimes we forget that developmental toy companies can be a great place to work!

    1. Beau, thanks for responding to my blog. As I was telling tara up above, that in one of my previous classes a fellow classmate had used Little Tykes as a reference and I was so ignorant to the wealth of knowledge that they provide with the exceptions of the toys. I now have a better appreciation for toy manufactures; such as Little Tykes, Legos, and Mattel just to name a few.

  4. Hello Sherrell,

Thank you for sharing your information!
You have given information on organizations that are in force to offer the best practices and up to date information in the field of early child care. I like the focus of the organization Zero to Three! the concentration of that level of development would offer help,
insight to many families and centers .
